I think the rave about ukay-ukay started roughly 6 years ago, or at least that’s when I started noticing ukay-ukays popping out almost in every corner of every street. But don’t you underestimate ukay-ukay. Some may have crazy theories about where the clothes actually come from—my brother says they were the old clothes of those suicide bombers, whatever.
I myself find joy whenever I get to find designer shoes and bags stacked in the dirty shelves and racks of the ukay-ukay store. Just the other day I found these amazing pink Gola racing boots in the corner of one of the ukay-ukays in Cavite. When I asked one of the sales clerks how much the boots are, he said ONE HUNDRED PESOS. I burst out laughing, and he must think I was laughing at him, but I was just surprised and excited at the same time at the price. Shoes from Gola normally range from P3, 000 to P5, 000, and those are just normal running shoes. Racing boots cost a lot more. Needless to say, I bought the shoes.
When I came home I immediately tried on pants, shorts, and skirts that would go well with the boots, and here are some awesome bottoms you can wear your racing boots with:
1. Skinny jeans – they would fall just above the top of the boots, so you could showcase them. They look awesome and sexy, not to mention perfect for the rainy season.
2. Flare pants – not showing the boots would not be as great as showing them, but they still look good. It would appear like you’re wearing normal running shoes. Think of it this way, you’re like a superhero, walking in the streets hiding an awesome secret.
3. Plaid mini skirts – the best colors to pair of with the pink boots are black and gray because the contrast looks very good and the boots would stand out even more. These look great when you want to be extra fashionable.
4. Short shorts – works just like the minis, but this option is for those who are more conservative and are worried about wearing skirts that are too short. This is perfect for those who are long-legged.
5. Leggings – Works like skinnies. You can wear a long blouse or a short dress over the leggings. Either way, you would totally look fantastic.
Naturally, I’ve run out of bottoms to wear with my pink racing boots, but if ever you think of something else to pair off with these amazing finds, do tell me. In the meantime, I’m going to try wearing them outside for the first time.
