There are some men who are unaware that they are somewhat peacocking. Oh yes, there are. Contrary to those who are aware and often mess things up, unaware peacockers are usually cooler to look at. Maybe it’s because of their mere nonchalant attitude about how they look like that makes them all the more interesting.
I know it looks like I’m referring to a particular person, but I’m not. I just really observe people. And mostly men. I went to visit some relatives in Marikina the other day, to just hang out. SM Marikina opened only about two months ago and a lot of people go there to “experience” a new mall.
I’m not used to people in there, because every time I go there, I’m amazed at how they look. It seems like they live in a different country. The vibe is different. But I can tell you that the guys there are some of the most dressed-down men I’ve seen. But they look cool altogether.
Peacockers believe that they need a certain accessory to make them stand out in a crown like a crazy hat or funky-looking shoes, but personally, I notice those guys who are dressed-down but nevertheless look awesome. One guy I saw in Marikina that I liked was just wearing regular jeans, a baseball cap, Vans sneakers and a plain white shirt. He had both of his ears pierced and he had a goatee.
I asked some of my friends if they liked the way the guy looked and they agreed. I also asked them which guy they preferred: the guy I just pointed at them or the one we saw at Terminal Fluid a few weeks back. They laughed hysterically. Okay, not hysterically, but they laughed.
It wasn’t even considered a question. Lousy peacockers have no place in the dating world. Those who resort to peacocking, we sincerely believe, are prone to picking up the wrong kind of women. Or maybe, the right one for them, if they’re into rather sleazy-looking girls.
