Earrings for Men

In high school, I can still remember how many of my guy classmates were so into wearing earrings. I think their point was they were comfortable enough with their sexuality that it doesn’t matter to them how gay they might look wearing earrings. Some guys even carried girls’ handbags and made it sort of a fashion statement.

They looked like a bunch of idiots carrying girls’ purses and handbags, while strutting like they owned the school. It was such an awkward mix of irony and it was utterly absurd. That’s actually one of the reasons why I never liked any guy of my age when I went to high school. I always thought they were below me, and doing those just proved my point.

Anyway, the earrings weren’t that stupid. Some guys actually improved their looks and appeal by wearing earrings. I went to a private Catholic school and guys wearing earrings were an absolute no-no. That prohibition made it all the more exciting for guys to do it, and it made them more appealing to most girls. But I guess the thing that the boys in my school should’ve done is research. Research on what earrings would look good at them. Most of them wore little silver stud earrings or little silver hoop earrings. Those went well with most who wore them, but there were also guys who wore stupid big faux-diamond studs. They looked like rapper wannabes and sometimes they made you want to beat them up for merely considering wearing those kinds of earrings.

Below are some of the types of earrings I personally like to see on guys because they improve most guys’ appeal.

Studs
I’m not talking about the big diamond studs I mentioned earlier, but the little silver studs. It goes great because they’re subtle and you don’t notice it right away but once you do, it really looks cool. Plus it doesn’t look trying hard at all. And if you’re on a date, you should be ashamed if you’re wearing larger jewelries than your date (if you dared to wear any at all).

Hoops
Hoops are tricky because sometimes they make a guy look gay. I especially like the little hoop earrings for men and wear them by pair. Wearing only of them kind of reminds me of George Michael, and I don’t need to remind you who and what George Michael is. My boyfriend usually wears little hoop earrings on both ears and I really love how he looks like. Sometimes though when we’re feeling sort of mushy and all, we split this silver stud earrings and tunnel-like stud and wear one of each. That’s also a great idea by the way, wearing two different kinds of earrings.

Barbecue
Barbecues look really cool, but take longer time to heal. It’s because one piercing goes up on the part where you would have to pierce a cartilage, and the other one goes on the side of the ear near the edge. The earring used is long one, long enough to pierce the two holes, hence the name barbecue. It really looks cool and it’s for those who want a more unique look but still a little subtle.

Flesh Tunnels
Tunnels are not for everyone, because it takes a lot of work and you don’t get a tunnel in a day. You have to wear multiple sizes of earrings which diameter get bigger and bigger and slowly stretch the hole in your ear. It’s also not advised for those working in a corporate world or in a company which is very strict about how the men in their company looks like. But if you’re the freelancer type or someone who are kind of an artist, then maybe tunnels could be your best fashion statement.

The styles or earrings are not just what men could choose from. If they really want to stand out but think that having a tunnel would be two painful, they could opt for multiple piercings, which looks cool only if you have clean ears and your whole attitude and style match with your piercings.
