The word fashionable is usually associated with women. It’s women who always have the latest trends and numerable styles, colors, and material to choose from and not look weird. Women have always been gutsy in wearing almost anything they want because it’s almost kind of a dictum that women be fashionable.
Nowadays, with the rise of peacocking, I’ve noticed, men are also becoming more and more fashion conscious. I even know male friends who are more fashion conscious than my female friends—granted, a few of them are gay, but they’re still men.
All my mall-going, gig-going, and the usual gimiks with friends have exposed me to different kinds of fashion items that men consider to be essential to their overall look. I’m listing three of the things men find difficult to be fashionable without. Personally, I’m surprised at this discovery, but these are the things I noticed.
1. Belts – men walk a certain way when they’re aware they have an eye-catching belt. They can wear lame-ass pants or cheap shirts, but when they know they have a nice belt, they would go around looking all proud and peacocking-ish. I think this is because when they know they have a limited choice when it comes to their shirts and pants, they can compensate their bland look with a really nice blend. Sometimes it works.
2. Eye wear – it doesn’t matter if it’s eyeglasses with no prescription, or sunglasses, or contact lenses. This is another one of men’s making up for a rather lame wardrobe. The most common eyewear I see guys wear are the eyeglasses. Whether or not it’s prescription, men want to take advantage of it by choosing really eye-catching frames.
3. Perfumes – I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to smell the best. Men love smelling good as much as women do, sometimes even more. This is because they know that however good they look, what’s more important to women is how they smell. Personally, it’s one of my preferences when it comes to men.
Fashion has really gone a long way, especially for men. I just hope in the near future, it doesn’t come in between men and women hooking up together. It would be utterly weird for a couple fighting for the same designer scarf of sunglasses don’t you think?
