Peacocking during Christmas season

Christmas is always a good time to dress up. Dress up especially with the kinds of clothes we don’t usually get to wear during normal days. One good thing about Christmas season is the weather. You could go out at 12 noon and wear a jacket and it would still feel cold. I love it. Back in college, I always rode the bus. And it fascinated me that I didn’t feel the change in temperature when I got off the bus.

In our school, girls wore an all-white uniform and boys wore the usual white polo and black slacks. But during this time, you would see all kinds of people making themselves fashionable with the weather. Almost everyone, including me, wore jackets. And some people wore not just normal jackets for the rainy season, but jackets that you know they reserved for this kind of season.

It’s sort of easy to notice because you see how new it looks and how they wore it like it was the first time they wore it. It used to kill me seeing people like those. Our school is home to scholars, and most of us come from a middle-class family. If there were overly rich people, it was only a small percentage. So it amused the hell out of me to see people who waited for a whole year to be able to wear their jackets for the first time.

And they had this smile on their faces. Like if you suddenly commented about their jackets, “hey, nice jacket!” their faces would light up and tell you the story of how, when, and where they bought it. You could see that you did them a favor by saying how nice their jacket is.

One way or another, people love showing off whatever it is they got. But who can blame them right? We’re all composed of the same thing, so what please us are also usually the same things. Nonetheless, people like those kill me.
