Peacocking Wear – 3 tips on getting the right kind of attention

Rica, the aloof yet attractive curator of the National Museum, was bored. She had spent her night staring at her drink, thinking that she’ll meet that special someone. Unfortunately, all of the guys who ever did approach her were either poseurs, pretentious or – in the lack of any better word – dumb.

Or so she thought. A tall, stylish, tanned man, wearing a three-piece suit, dress shoes – and uniquely, and surprisingly in match, an aviator headgear – came in the main gallery. Catching everyone’s attention, and to Rica’s delight, the aviator headgear man approached her.

“Hi,” he said.

“Finally, something different,” said Rica.

This just proves how peacocking, or the act of dressing to stand out, can help one land his dream date. The term, coined by master pickup artist Erik von Markovik, otherwise known as Mystery, peacocking can not only deal with outlandish clothing, but can also equally work out with small male accessories.

Peacocking is mainly a conversation starter. From wearing something as bizarre (like the aviator headgear) to discreet, yet unique and attractive accessories (leather necklaces, labeled watches), peacocking wear, if effectively worn and carried out, can take relationships with the female species at an even higher level.

Here are a few suggestions to help you out on choosing the right peacocking wear:

It’s in the wrist – when making new acquaintances, more often than not, you’ll get to shake their hands. Turn this simple ritual of saying hello into a full-blown conversation by wearing something on your wrists. To go with any of your outfits, you can opt to wear leather wristbands. For something flashy, go for thick silver cuffs. To show sophistication, go for that pricey watch. Just lay down on the colors. Avoid neon colors to avoid looking like a 1980′s movie reject.

I’d like a man who thinks – to really catch a lot of attention, focus on your headgear. Just like the tanned man who swooned Rica, wearing a unique head gear will not only catch the attention of your dream girl, but of others as well. Try wearing a bowler hat. It’s different, unique, can mean you’re a lover of literature (Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being). Just make sure it isn’t too flashy – you really wouldn’t want getting the wrong kind of attention.

The Emperor’s a Peacocking Master – remember the children’s tale, The Emperor’s New Clothes? The story shows how an emperor was able to walk through his entire kingdom, wearing no clothes at all. Though you don’t need to go out naked (it’s illegal!), you must always remember to wear confidence. Yes, it’s something not seen, something not spoken of, but with it, you’re sure to start things talking regardless of what you decide to wear.

In peacocking, always choose the most comfortable clothes. It doesn’t need to be flashy, doesn’t need to entirely stand-out. It’s just an extension of you, and how your confidence matches up on saying something to your dream date.
